Bits and Pieces

>> Wednesday, December 10, 2008

You can probably relate, agree or disagree to some/all of it.

- It pays to listen to the people who cares about us the most.
- It is really painful to realize that we could have done better, but didn't.
- Loneliness will eat us, and it will take a great deal of effort to fight the negativity.
- Happiness in life depends on how we see the things that happens to us.
- Crying over stuff that bothers or hurts really helps.
- We can't always get what we want. Change is innevitable, so better accept it.
- There will always be people who will think less of you. It SHOULD NOT matter because you know yourself better.
- To err is human. Each day is an opportunity to learn from our mistakes or even rectify it. Instead of sulking on what we have done wrong, deal with it and make sure it does not happen again.

The most difficult thing to feel is the fear of the unknown. - Cel

It's been weeks that I am waiting for this moment -- become a permanent employee in my new job. I have been psyching myself that the company needs people so I can be assured that I will be hired permanently. Also, I think I have done the job naman as expected. But still the fear of the unknown, the never-ending list of worries keep bugging me. Then a few days ago, my manager gave me the letter signifying I'm a perm staff na. :D Yeyeyey...

I am really thankful that despite of the world crisis, I am still have a job. Knowing that a lot of companies are cutting jobs, it's really alarming. As far as I know, there are no plans for our company to retrench since we are in good shape (i.e. we still have good clients). Just really have to prove more that I am really worthy for this company.

Another fear of the unknown is if my manager will allow me to take a few days off. As you can see on my calendar of events, my parents will be coming here in SG this Friday. I keep on thinking on how I will tell him considering that I just got perm and we have tons of work to do. I am already getting cold just thinking about it so I decided to go for it. It's so funny because even without knowing the exact number of days, he agreed. Woohoo.. :D

Sometimes the fear of the unknown will eat you up. Up to you if you will hold back or not think about it too much and take the risk. And as far as I know, it is generally better to take the risk. because most of our worries don't actually happen :)

So happy and so thankful.. :) I have tons of plans for my parents and I know I'll be able to do it. :D

Ten Things that Freaks Me the Most

1) Cockroaches(make that any crawling and flying insects). The sight of them really scares the hell out of me.
2) Drowning. The reason why I am always not that excited when I hear the words swimming and beach. The though/feeling of being submerged in the water and eventually drown is uggghhh, damn freaky.
3) People (especially those you know) who deceive others for money, in short SCOUNDRELS!
4) Being trapped in a confined room full of stinky people
5) Those who get a lot of info from you and yet they don't share what they know. These people have the tendency to take credit of others' achievements, ideas, work. Kenis..
6) Talangka (Crab) mentality
7) Having to touch something without seeing it.
8) People who say they're perfect. Winner! hehe..
9) Waking up in the middle of the night because of a very scary dream
10) Total darkness.

What freaks you out? :p

Love is a temporary madness. It erupts like an earthquake and then subsides. And when it subsides you have to make a decision. You have to work out whether your roots have become so entwined together that it is inconceivable that you should ever part. Because this is what love is. Love is not breathlessness, it is not excitement, it is not the promulgation of promises of eternal passion. That is just being "in love" which any of us can convince ourselves we are. Love itself is what is left over when being in love has burned away, and this is both an art and a fortunate accident. Your mother and I had it, we had roots that grew towards each other underground, and when all the pretty blossom had fallen from our branches we found that we were one tree and not two.

Sometimes it is really not that easy to get up and be positive about everything in your life. Day-by-day there are things that will push you a bit closer to the edge and make you feel helpless and down. It's not easy but I know things happen for a reason. But, just thinking..

..how God gives me a lot of strength to surpass any challenges that life throws at me and for always bringing a lot of blessings in my life;

..of my husband who never fails to make me smile and understands my moods;

..of how I can now provide more for my family brings me so much happiness;

..how me and my very few close friends constantly ensures that we're still connected no matter the distance;

.. how life brings forward endless and amazing possibilities;

These keeps me going. These make me grateful each day. :)

My To-do List

>> Monday, November 3, 2008

I normally blog hop when I am drained. A few minutes of browsing really helps to relax my fried brain from having the 8-hour job. I noticed that there are a lot of bloggers who sort-of define a subject for each day of the week. So from now on, I will try to do the same. Though my blog will not be limited to the subjects I'll define. The list I thought of was...

  • Thankful Monday -> good to start the week with your heart full of gratitude
  • Wordless Tuesday -> sometimes silence means a lot
  • Lovely Wednesday -> love is everywhere
  • Top Ten Thursday -> a thought on just about anything
  • All-Good Friday -> to appreciate all the good things in life
  • Photo Hunt Saturday -> looking back is always fun
  • Food Sunday -> anything from foods that satisfy our body to foods that feed our soul
There! I'm so excited to do this. :p

How To Get To Avenue Q...

>> Sunday, November 2, 2008

Here is my official kwento on our yesterday's kitakits for Avenue Q last Nov 1. Will blog in bullets para mas mabilis.. :))

  • Weng was in charged of booking the tickets for us. And it was Weng's lucky day because the system assigned her reservation in front row! :) Ticket was a whooping 123 SGD but we are so sure it's worth it.
  • Met at aroung 5pm at Marina Square, we had our early dinner (as per my request) at Breeks Cafe. Had a very sumptuous set of meal. :p
  • Since we ate a lot and we are still a bit early for the play, we decided to walk outside esplanade and take some pics.
  • I think it was around 730PM that we finally entered the theater. And whoah! we're really in front row. As in first row, middle. Woohoo. The stage is probably 2-feet away. And though the management explicitly said we can't take photos, we had sneaked for a few not-so-good-shots. Oh well, what the heck! At least we have some pics :))
  • We really had a lot of fun watching the play. We even had some moments where we recalled our Miss Saigon stage play gig a few years back. Filipino performers are really amazing and world-class! (not that I am a Filipino hehehe..).
  • After that two and a half hour play, seems that we can't get enough of each other hahaha.. Sinulit na talaga ang minsang mga gimik. So we opted to have coffee.. Starbucks is the nearest one, so off we go. And yey! Starbucks Special Christmas Season drinks are back! This time, it's Dark Cherry Mocha and Toffee Nut!
  • So the usual chikahan and keep ups.. had a lot of fun.. The pictures said it all. :) Whoops! Kainis, wala pala akong group pic sa starbucks. :p

Things On My Mind Lately...

>> Tuesday, October 28, 2008

- Learn more on photography
It means that I want to put my love of taking pics to a higher level. We own a very good point-and-shoot cam but since I want to deepen my "digital perspective" might as well plan to buy a DSLR. Hopefully our budget will eventually permit me to buy one, probably early next year ;) ....

- Know more about digital scrapbooking and Adobe Photoshop
A nice-to-have knowledge that I can tie up with photography. If only I'm not too lazy to learn these.

- Diet and Exercise
As some of you may know, Mon and I are trying to shed some pounds and force ourselves the habit of exercising at least 3x a week. Monitoring our more than 6 weeks of dieting and a bit exercise, it seems that we're on a roller coaster ride. One day we lost a lot, the next we gained it back (or some more!) huhuhu.. We know the trend where we gain it back.. our weekend FOOD escapades! Along with our diet goal is our weekly trips to our favorite Pepper Lunch. Now you know! hahaha..

- Learn more on Java, Frameworks and Tools :))
Learning to appreciate more the programming language I'm using at work, I figured I still have a heck of learning to do considering that Java is constantly improving and new frameworks, APIs and tools are created. This would require me to check again the fundamentals. Ngii...

- Travel, travel, travel
Mon and I have already planned to travel at least once a year. We are thinking of targetting countries in Asia first before other continents. Initial list: Japan (I would like to bring my Nanay along), Malaysia and Indonesia(which we can do anytime), Hong Kong (miss ko na eh and we haven't been there together), Thailand (more sight-seeing and shopping), Cambodia and Vietnam. But since Mon really wants to visit Greece, who knows?! We might prioritize visiting Greece first among others. ANOTHER BUT! Since travel will be very costly, it is a MAJOR PREREQ to fulfill the next three items.

- Save, save, save
I think I would agree with that most people say.. "Wisdom comes with age", "A year older, a year wiser" Those are a few that I can think of now that Mon and I are in the stage of trying to "secure our future" considering that the economy is very volatile as well as our plans to have a family soon and travel at least once a year.

- Look for other additional income opps
It's not just about saving, it's about trying to make a bit more while working. So (though still vague), we have to look for ways to have a few more bucks in our pockets. Have listed some already and we hope if time permits, we can start it already. :D

- Change spending habits
Hahaha.. Seems this will be a tough one for me (and not Mon :p). Though through the years I'd say I have changed my spending habits a lot, I still think I can still improve some more. I have identified some while writing this. First, I'm so excited in buying things for our family in Pinas. I was able to buy a lot that I need the biggest box to fill up with the goodies. Lalo pa that in Singapore, everyday na lang sale kainis. For sure I will still be sending something at home but I am determined to really set a budget for it and buy the most important things first before the anik-aniks. :)) Another thing is to review our daily/monthly expenses and see where we can save more. On my part, ang daming opps to save, as in hehehe... I think the major motivator is to think that I can save it so I can send more money at home. I'm thinking of the basics, such as to cut back on some things, cook again
(lately I'm so tamad to cook) so I can bring some for lunch at the office AND stick to my phone call budget. I am also planning to have a coin bank where I'll put a dollar everytime I succeed in not spending on unnecessary things and putting 5 dollars for every item that I have bought. Parang bata... hahaha..

Haaayyyy, so little time so much to learn/do...

I'm Back! (WARNING: LONG POST)

>> Thursday, October 16, 2008

Yes, after hibernating, I'm back.. Checking from my blog entries, my last post was July 17. Dunno if there are still people visiting my blog but oh well, writing what happened in the past months is refreshing anyway.

Since I am unemployed during the first weeks of my absence in the blog world,I have been busy with phone and walk-in interviews. There came a point where I was offered with an analyst role but got me in a lot of thinking. Should I stay in the technical side first or pursue the more functional aspect job? Whew... I decided to still be more of analyst/developer. I think that I have to strengthen my skills more technically to be more confident in a bigger role.

Being unemployed gave me a chance to arrange a short vacation here in SG for my parents. It will be this November. I had countless phone calls just to make sure that they are arranging their documents for passport processing. Though it initially got me worried 'cause I haven't secured a job, I took the risk. :p I have drafted an itinerary for them since I also have to consider the time and budget especially the “pagod" factor of my parents. I can't wait for them to be here.

Come mid-August, I found a new job. Been pretty busy at work but it is a very good timing when I joined them. They have just completed the development of the new version and is currently in testing phase. In less than a week, I am already fixing bugs and I'd say it is a good way to actually learn how the system works without my nose bleeding. hahahaha.. So far, so good.. I like the job, I like the environment and I like to stay in the company for long. :) Hopefully they are satisfied with how I work. By November, I would know if I'm confirmed as a perm staff. :D The new and bigger project is about to kickstart by next month, which makes me feel a handful of emotions.. excited and challenged of the new knowledge I'd gain, nervous on the complexity of the work that will be assigned to me, a bit anxious of overtimes, sleepless nights and dreamful nights (still of work) since that means less QT with Mon. Oh well, it's part of the job and I just have to be multi-tasking to pump the QT with Mon even I'm working late.

Moving along, Mon and I hardly go out on weekends so we mostly spend our time watching series and movies. Yes, we're addicts! Hahaha.. Since most U.S. series started their new season premieres last September, Mon and I are totally smitten in watching the latest eps. We're currently watching Gossip Girl, Heroes and of course, House M.D. (Warning on some spoilers :p)

Gossip Girl: For the first two episodes of Gossip Girl (yes, my husband watches this at mas affected sya on some scenes ha lol), I kind of got irritated with the Serene-Dan issue. Ang arte na kasi... But as the story progress, Serena becomes bitchy again which threathened the Queen B, I'd say the heat is on. :)) I hope I won't get tired soon of this teeny-bopper series.

Heroes: When Mon said he has the first two eps, I just ignored him. Haha.. I wasn't a bit excited because I have a feeling it's not that fun to watch anymore. But I was comepletely wrong! I really loved the episodes so far. I am actually getting more irritated with Hiro always messing things up and Peter totally screwing the future. Hehehe.. And not only that, Mrs. Petrelli is intriguing me. Is she really the mom of Gabriel? Or she's just "taming" his other side (Sylar)? What is she really up to? Is she a villain in disguise? Hahaha.. can't wait for the next episode...

House, M.D.: THE BEST! Grabe, I can't find the words to express how good the first few episodes are! All I know is that this series is my favorite. The actors are really really good. The writers, superbly created catchy punchlines. Wilson ditches his friendship with House. House can't accept that fact. His 3 staffs becoming House’s targets to deal with his issues. House having a new found friend in a form of a private investigator, who happens to be realy interested with Cuddy. Hehehe.. aliw talaga!

We also revived our liking on the Iron Chef (Japan) competition series. I used to watch it when I was still single at the Lifestyle Network channel of SkyCable. Of course, Mon had no choice but watch with me when he visits me at our house. After some time, he became fond of it. :p We're both Iron Chef Japan Rokusaburo Michiba fans for his creativity and unique creations. Makes me inspired to try inventing new dishes. :p

I also got a bit busy teaching Mon some dishes that he can cook for us especially that he usually arrives home earlier than I am. He knows how to cook nilaga and sinigang already and the usual "pritos". I just thought him the standard sauteing of garlic and onion and its variations when there's a need to put pork bits in the viand. So far, I have taught him that as well as the tinola and adobo. I am planning to teach him some more (probably one is the pinatisang manok, which he loves) because nowadays, I'm super lazy to cook. :p

We attended several kainans and birthday parties in the last two months. First is Weng and Yong's housewarming dinner at Pasir Ris. Mon and I even stayed there overnight hehe.. Then there's David's (my inaanak) 2nd birthday celebration and Lyle's (my co-batswan Lei's son) 1st birthday. We also had a biglaan, sort-of 1st year in SG celeb at Lau Pa Sat, Jolly-V. Another one is Weng's "Big Three-O" celeb as she calls it. :D ANd I also met a good friend having a vacation here in SG for a nice lunch and chat. SO just imagine the number of pounds we AGAIN gained.. huhuhu..

But then, we started our gradual diet plan three weeks ago. So far, not so good. *inis* We are trying very hard to have dinner only 3x a week, with the remaining four days eating one to two slices of wheat bread. Monitoring our weights is frustrating since it's like a roller coaster... up and down. *grrr* Though an additional way we did to shed some pounds is to jog and brisk walk but we aren't strict enough to ensure that we do it at least 3x a week. I know we must have unwavered determination on achieving our plan.

There you go! I hope I will be really back in track now. So happy to have posted updates. :p

The Message That Made My Day

>> Thursday, July 17, 2008

It seems that having no work also meant being a bum at blogging. :) Will post some happenings for the past few weeks on another post. Just have to share what happened today.

I am on SVP until today but Mon applied at MOM so I can have a dependent pass. But the agent's instructions are unclear that I dunno if we need to give them the papers or I claim myself. Good thing Cel and Weng had prior experiences on this one. So I went to MOM for it and it's a coincidence that Tita (Weng's mom) will also claim her long term pass. I had someone with me while waiting for the card....
She arrived way earlier than I did so she got me a number while I was on the way. Had an encounter with another Pinoy who got the queue number 177 (and the currently served number is around 90+, though it's quite fast). Tita just gave the other number that she got for me (147 hehehe).

Since the card pickup time is 1130am for her and 1230 for me, we had our brunch at a cafe near MOM ('twas just 10am that time). Had a nice pasta and sandwich along with chitchats. Made me miss my nanay. Haayy.. Hopefully she can come here this year too.

Got back at around 11am, Tita got her card already. I didn't bring enough cash thinking that I can pay via nets. Tried withdrawing but I can't - syempre panic mode na. Tita had an extra but it is for the gas installation on their new home, which is scheduled today at 130pm. She had to wait for me to see if nets will work, else she'll just lend me the extra money. Hayy.. Ayun, it worked naman. But she could have left at around 1120am ('twas 12+ when I got my card) :-s

Well, got home and just chatted with friends. And Weng sent me this via IM -- this made my day..

"These are exactly the words i want to say to you

When you lose your own anchoring self-esteem in the face of a storm of personal criticism, it is so relieving to be able to have someone who knows you well enough to be able to say with confidence that the criticism is wrong. I was told several times that I was too weak and too dependent on my partner - she seemed to take the view that any reliance on other people was a weakness. And for a while I almost believed this was true.

As the weeks have passed I have regained my strength, my confidence, and enough anger to protect myself and define my own boundaries. But there were days where I really did need support, and I am profoundly grateful to you for the way you helped me through this time."

*HUGSSSS WENG* mWaH!

The Joy of Having Friends

>> Tuesday, July 1, 2008

My friend, if you are reading this, I hope and pray that the healing comes really soon. Just remember that the pain that you feel right now is only temporary and will eventually go away. Continue believing that you can move on with your life. Put your energy into using what you have to make life better than ever.

The road you took has been very bumpy but I know you'll be good in no time. Everything is in your hands, it's your decision to look at it positively. You have to be firm in taking each day as an opportunity to make one step forward towards a smoother ride of life. All your friends are just here to guide you towards recovery. I am always here for you.

Friend, you are stronger that you think. Any person in this kind of ordeal can feel so crushed but it's better to let go rather than hold on to something that isn't meant to be after all. I have complete faith that this will be over soon. I would just like to share with you a song. Here it is:

You Made Me Stronger

Is it hard to believe I'm okay?
After all, it's been a while since you walked away
I'm way past crying, over you finding someone new

My days have turned into nights
But now I see the light
And this may be a big surprise to you

'Cause you made me stronger by breaking my heart
You ended my life and made a better one start
You taught me everything from fallin' in love to letting to of a lie
You made me stronger, baby, by saying goodbye

If you rather believe I'm not over you
Go ahead, there's nothing wrong with making believe
I know, 'cause I used to pretend you'd come back to me

But time has been such a friend
Brought me to my senses again
And I have you to thank, for setting me free

'Cause you made me stronger by breaking my heart
You ended my life and made a better one start
You taught me everything from fallin' in love to letting to of a lie
You made me stronger, baby, by saying goodbye

Think again
Don't feel so sorry for me, my friend
Oh, don't you know, I'm not the one at the losing end

'Cause you made me stronger by breaking my heart
You ended my life and made a better one start
You taught me everything from fallin' in love to letting to of a lie
You made me stronger, baby, by saying goodbye

Goodbye.. You made me stronger, baby by saying.. Goodbye..

Today's Thoughts

Whenever I am depressed of some sort, I would instantly seek for ways to motivate me. I know that I most of the times neglect God's healing power especially on occasions like this. For now, I am happy that I was able to acknowledge this and try to pull myself out of this misery (slowly but surely).

Currently, I don't have a job. I came here in Singapore mainly to earn more so I can support my family better. Mon is hesitant but he agreed having had a very tough time deciding. He finally agreed and we took the risk of resigning from our good jobs in the Philippines.

We both landed a good job but is stressful. Good thing we are used to work pressures. I have earned the recognition and respect from the company I worked with. They offered the position permanently to me but prior to the offer, I have really decided that I want to seek for a new one for a lot of reasons. That's why I declined among the other positions that they offered.

The past months have been pretty chaotic, a lot of issues popped out just about everywhere. My concern list grew, my mind went blank for a moment...

1) Maybe I should have just accepted their offer, at least it's permanent already. I'll be secured. Lesser difficulties, lesser adjustments, lesser headaches.. No more hassle interviews, no more agony in looking for a new job. In short, I am in the comfort zone again.
2) I am worried that I might not get a new job soon. Not only that, I am worried that I may not find "the job" that I am hoping for. "The job" that I can be happier with, feel contented yet challenged, "the job" where I can eventually stay for long.
3) Had some interviews but doesn't seem fit. Though there are job interviews on the way, I feel the need to really refresh my mind with some of the frameworks I have used. I would really want to develop again using those frameworks especially that a lot of companies are looking for it.
4) I have a family that needs my help. Not having a job soon will mean no financial help for the moment. I can't stand that.

Having thought of these things, I know it will just consume me. I could have just accepted the permanent position offer for the meantime while looking for a new one but it just means being somewhere where my heart isn't. I know I will eventually find a new one and hopefully it's "the one". Mon really wanted me to rest for a few weeks but still, I'm pressured.

For now, I am determined to study the frameworks that I have learned before so I can be more confident during interviews. It's tough but I have to do this for myself and my family.

A while ago, I was just about to give up.. then I saw this...

Fresh opportunities to be

Appreciate your shortcomings for where they have brought you. Then release them and be free to rise above the limitations.

Savor the disappointments one last time and remember all you have learned from them. Then let them go and eagerly look forward to new and fruitful experiences.

Sincerely and completely forgive those who have brought you pain, including yourself. And feel the healing that immediately takes hold.

Be truly thankful for having been through so much. Then get busy creating the best of what can be.

Let go of the useless drama that is already over. Hold on to the positive value that you've gained from it all.

Always there are new possibilities to explore, new ways to grow, and new worlds to experience. With each new now, the world is filled with fresh opportunities to be.

New Blog Layout

>> Monday, June 30, 2008

Alas! I have changed the layout of my blog. I opted for red-white-black layout for a cleaner, more readable look (though it's a bit unlikely for me to choose red since I am a fan of blue color). :p Having white background for the content is simpler. :) Thanks to Jackbook.com for this wonderful template.

There are still some more improvements to make though. Since I have adjusted the template to accomodate a wider content area, the banner image must be modified as well. Notice that the right most part is just a black background. I can just do this later. Hehehe..

Also, the javascript is still hosted in jackbook that's why at times, the date will not be appearing on the calendar. It will appear once the bandwidth limit for accessing their pages is reduced. I think I should prioritize this one.

Oh well, happy that finally I have successfully applied this template. Do you like it? :)

Pacquiao - Diaz Boxing Match

>> Tuesday, June 24, 2008

Everyone's into the much awaited fight of Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao and David "Dangerous" Diaz this coming June 29 at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. And despite of the calamity due to Typhoon Frank and the tragedy for MV Princess of the Stars, this boxing fight is still most talked about.

Fortunately there is a way for us here in SG to watch the fight live. It will be via sopcast. :) Just have to synchronize it with our plan to go to the toy and comic convention in Suntec. :D

But just now, my friend told me that President Arroyo along with 59 congressman is on a 10-day "working" visit to the US and this trip is Philippine government initiated trip. Meaning... the government funds will be used to pay for this trip! Haayyy... It is speculated that this trip in perfect timing for the upcoming boxing match. Come June 29 and they are watching the boxing match, shame on them. :( You might want to read this opinion article in Philippine Star.

Singapore Toy and Comic Convention

I wish my niece Katch is here with us for the weekend. This coming weekend is the Singapore Toy and Comic Convention (June 28-29) at Sunctec Convention hall 603. This will be first for Mon and I and I'm sure it will be a nice experience for us. Plus, we can take pictures and share it with Katch since she won't be with us here in SG. Hopefully there will be people dressed in blood+ anime characters so I can take pictures and send to her. Have watched one episode at animax and the characters are cute. :)

Checked their website for the event description and this is what they said:

"Fans and future-fans are welcome to attend the convention and be part of the melting pot of pop-culture. Activities include autograph signing sessions, live demonstrations and workshops with your favourite world-renowned artists and designers, a cosplay culture showcase and competitions, as well as the latest and greatest that the toy, comic, design, gaming, animation and cosplay industries have to offer!"

Too bad, the online pre-registration is already closed. With that, I am planning to go a bit early on the 29th since I am anticipating long lines in the registration area. They will be giving our passports upon registering, which the participant can use to collect stamps with allocated points. This stamp is convertible to goodies, which can be claimed at designated booths (at specific time).

For more details, visit their website at http://www.sgtoyandcomiccon.com/

Marie Digby's Makeup Artist and her DeepRockDrive Concert

>> Sunday, June 22, 2008

Just found the blog of Marie Digby's makeup artist when she went on tour here in Singapore.

Then I tried looking for some blogs that has entries on her DeepRockDrive concert. I wasn't able to watch it despite of having an invitation since I was in Bangkok during that time and I worked on night shift :( Oh well..

Weekend Recap

Saturday

Mon and I just spent the whole day at our flat... Talked to a very very good friend the whole morning (*hugs*), slept the whole afternoon (while hubby played the Nintendo DS), had dinner at Koufu (since it's late and it'll take time if I'll cook), had a round 2 for dinner since Cel grilled some steak and cooked vegetable soup (no more rice this time) and watched a suspense/thriller "Return to House on Haunted Hill" (not really scary). This day's okay since we just relaxed a bit at our flat.

Sunday

I was awakened by the loud raindrops and immediately woke up Mon. It was raining quite hard and we left our clothes hanging outside. Both of us were so frustrated because before going to bed the previous night, we talked about collecting the clothes but we opted to leave it outside so it would be "completely" dry the next day. So unfortunate that it rained.

That did not stop us from going outside. After talking to my parents almost the whole afternoon, we went to Lucky Plaza in Orchard to remit some money and proceeded to Takashimaya for lunch (all Pinoy restos in Lucky Plaza is jammed). We decided to eat at Yoshinoya where I had chicken teriyaki and Mon has the beef bowl. Yummy! :)

We're so full that we just walked around the mall and then dropped by Kinokuniya. I bought my art buff niece (Katch) books on how to draw manga book and her favorite Blood+ (Volume 1). I'm sure Katch will be excited and will surely bug me on when she will be receiving it (will have to wait someone here in SG to go back to Manila for vacation -- probably July). It'll still be a few more weeks but I am sure she can wait. :)

R4DS Setup

Mon wrote a very helpful entry about setting up the R4DS. Entry requires downloading the system files on the official site as well as the moonshell. He also found out other interesting things to make the Nintendo DS experience wonderful such as the DSOrganize and Custom themes.

Bangkok Trip Again

Currently here at Bangkok just to introduce the new support that will be there locally. :) Will be back in Singapore tomorrow afternoon but would still drop by the office.

Me and my colleague is on standby since tonight is the client's maintenance day (or night in this case). It shouldn't have anything to do with our apps just that we requested them to restart one of our apps since the magic disappearance of some log files. Client is admitted that this might be due to someone from them accidentally deleted the files.

Oh well... I am still hoping they won't call so we can just have some rest. :)

My niece Katch is currently into anime and this interest of hers have helped her improve her drawing skills. She watches Blood+ on animax and this inspired her to draw her fave character, Haji. Here it is:
She even joined the nickelodeon drawing contest which requires drawing her favorite avatar character. And of course I am a proud tita! :D I am sure her entry gets noticed. Hopefully she wins! :) Ayan namiss ko tuloy sya (our pic below) hehehe.. :)

On Lacking Sleep

>> Tuesday, June 17, 2008

These past few weeks I have difficulty sleeping. Dunno why.. Probably I think a lot about things right after lying on the bed. I would lie awake for 1.5 to 2hrs and what usually keeps me company is my good old NDS. Mon, on the other hand, can start snoring soon after he gives me his usual good night kiss :p

I know that I have to stop thinking about my concerns before sleeping. It's really dragging and the concerns are often translated in my dreams. And once I wake up, it is the first thing that comes into my mind. Stressful and frustrating!

Since I have acknowledge this, I am now trying to find ways to just relax and be worry-free before sleeping. This has allowed me to have one step forward in achieving my goal...

Free from frustration

You choose your frustrations. And you can just as easily choose to be free of frustration.
What is it that makes you frustrated? What kinds of things bring on so much frustration that you can't get anything accomplished?

Actually, nothing makes you frustrated. Frustration is just the way you respond to certain situations.

Frustration is useful when you first feel it, because it calls your attention to the conflict between your inner values and your outer situation. But once it has your attention, frustration has done its job, and it is then time to let it go.

As soon as you feel frustration, ask yourself what that frustration is attempting to tell you, and listen carefully to the answer. Once you truly get the message, the frustration has done its job and it falls naturally and easily away.

By immediately understanding and appreciating what your frustration has to say, you can quickly get beyond it. Then, with a new sense of purpose and positive direction, you'll be even more effective than before.

Back to Pinas, The Second Time Around

>> Thursday, June 12, 2008

The first one was last February, when we took advantage of the long weekend in Singapore due to Chinese New Year.

Singapore Changi airport is really nice. They really make the waiting on airports worth it. Lots of shops, scenic areas like Koi pond, Ferrari display, restos and U-Squeeze massager :D

We went back last May 24-June 1. As always, the 9days vacation (including travel) is not enough. Though Mon and I had some days to relax but we are mostly ironing out things. So little time that we only met a few friends during our vacation. Going back to Manila also means satisfying our cravings!

Cravings List:

1) My Nanay's Ginisang Upo, Sinigang na Baka, Menudo, Beef Broccoli, Kare-kare - She's the best! :)
2) Jollibee Chicken Joy and breakfast meals
3) FIC Pistachio Ice Cream (2 scoops! takaw)
4) Mexicali's soft taco
5) Dulcinea's garlic mushroom and churros! :D
6) Tapa King's tapa queen - spicy and sweet! Yum!
7) Quickly Taro Ice - with additional nago! ;)

New found fave is the KXP Restaurant at Robinson's Place Manila - our ISI barkada introduced us to this place. Yummy! Everything is really nice. But what I like best are the appetizer dip that has pesto oil in it and the Pistachio Silvana! You should try it. *Now I'm craving!*

Puro food lang ba? hahaha.. Nah, We have managed to do some other things since we don't know if we will have a good chance of going back to Manila within this year. :-s

1) Visit the townhouse that we bought in Cavite. This is quite a disappointment as they still haven't renovated our place based on the details that we have told them. Good thing my nanay will be helping us to follow up with the developer. Hopefully it will be okay within next month.
2) Meet up with friends - Mon and I had dinner with my high school barkada at Dulcinea. We also sort of surprised my ISI barkada at KXP (still can imagine how Ronnie looked when he saw me hahaha! peace!)

3) Attend to my niece's christening - babies really grow fast! The latest addition to our family, Keisha got baptized the day we arrived in Manila. She's lovely! Just noticed that she doesn't look much like her sisters when they were that age. She looks more like my in-law's mother. hehehe.. It's also an opportunity to meet relatives. :) In addition, I'm also happy that our Kiara is doing well. She's a lot bigger now. :)

4) Visited Mon's mom - we see to it that we visit her at Manila Memorial each time we're in Manila.
5) Relax at home - we had two full days to just stay at our home.
6) Bonding time with Mon's family and relatives - fortunately, they visited Mon's dad that we had the chance to hang out with them. Spent the whole day with them.
7) Grocery - we bought a lot of things in preparation for our return to Singapore -> from spreads (cheezwhiz, lily's peanut butter, guava jelly) to ufc ketchup, purefoods corned beef, century tuna, itlog na maalat, tuyo, danggit, daing and a lot more! hehehe..
8) Celebrity encounters - saw Carmina Villaroel and Pekto at Auntie Anne's RobPlace and Kim Chiu on SM MOA. :)

9) Photo-video settlement - i know, i know.. sobrang hindi naasikaso. Good thing we were able to squeeze it in this vacation. :)
10) Hair treatment and haircut - alas! :) Mon and I still prefer to have our hair done in Pinas. Mon can tell the reasons why. Hehehe.. (Be, you have a blog assignment)
11) Body massage - this is also another thing that we prefer in Pinas. Not only that it is expensive here in Singapore but I have heard a lot of feedback that massage services here is not that good. We had the massage at relaksasi (sister company of let's face it). It's located in front of Dusit Hotel in Makati. very very nice! We had the combination massage (Shiatsu and Swedish). I think I like Shiatsu than swedish. I had availed of the foot spa service too hehehe.. :)

Haayy, Mon and I are looking forward to another Pinas vacation. Hopefully our next trip will be two or more weeks as I plan for Mon and I to go out of town (probably Boracay along with a bit near escapade like Tagaytay). :) By the way, Mon's version here.

Marie Digby Encounter - Part II

This a a super overdue post already. Anyways the day after Marie Digby's mini-concert, I met with my Batswan buddies for a lunch at Wisma Atria. They are so kind of setting the venue at Wisma 'cause Marie's autograph signing is also there! We had lunch at Din Tai Fung (yum yum!) It was really nice to meet up with batchmates again. Too bad I came quite late.

Afterwards I told them that I will be heading to The Gap store for the autograph signing. I was so touched that they joined me at The Gap for moral support hahahaha.. Lukaret nga sila 'cause they are taking pictures of me while waiting. Hahaha.. I was standing near the so-called stage with Tin, Yong and Weng while Mon lined up outside for the auto-signing queue (loves talaga ako ng hubby ko ;D). What is really good in any event in Singapore is you can be really close to the "stage", making it really possible to have better view and photos of course. :D

And then she arrived (breathless)... She sang shortcut versions of Say it Again and Umbrella then autograph signing began. I joined Mon on the queue and just chitchat for a while. I was really determined to tell her that I am the one who have been exchanging emails with her at myspace.

My friends waiting for us in front sent us text messages about how the Gap people are handling the autograph signing. They said that at some point, they shorten the time per person having their cd's signed. No more personalized message, no more photo session. Hah! I'm still determined no matter what. :D

When it was our turn, I did not mind the Gap staffs surrounding us. I barely remember them telling me no notebook (I was holding a notebook to show my name). Still determined to have more time with her, I kept on talking to Marie to remind her while she was signing the CD, then she remembered! Yey! She stood up and hugged me! I actually heard people cheering and clapping when whe stood up. And the best was we had a picture together! :D After that I gave her a gift and she was so touched. I hope she liked it.

I am so so happy about this encounter. I had the time of my life! :D Two days in the life of a die-hard fan! Hahaha.. I don't care if some thinks of it as jologs. It's a once in a lifetime opportunity to meet someone you admire so I have to make the most out of it. :D hehehehe.. Here are some pics. :)

High School Memories

Again, I have quite a long absence on the blogsphere. Have to update a lot of things but needs to recall as many details as much as I can. Anyway, a good warm up to recall things is actually reminisce my high school life. I happen to pass by a blog with this entry so here goes:

THINK BACK TO 4th year high school… Let’s see how much you remember and how much you regret..

What section were you? Amber (Star Section naks! haha.. feeling)

Who were your seatmates? We change seats every quarter. I remember well my seatmates on 1st quarter since we are seated alphabetically: Right - Marilou Adao, Left - Loida Afable

Still remember your English teacher? Ms. Reyes (forgot her first name), she's petite, has white complexion and very soft spoken.

What was your first class? Arrgghhh! Can't remember. Although I remember that at the start of the day, the class secretary checks the attendance and logs it in the beadle. :)

Made friends to the lower years? Had a few.

How was your class schedule? 7:00am to 5:20

Made any enemies? none that I can think of. :) Good girl ako eh hahaha..

Who was your favorite teacher? Hmmm.. During that time, I have no fave teacher. Pero recalling 4th yr, I'd say fave ko si Mr. Creme dela Creme (Mr. dela Cruz) hindi dahil sa fave ko ang math pero dahil we had several doses of his katarayan.

What sport did you play? I'm not the athletic type. So I am more into dance and singing activities. :)

Were you a party animal? No, good girl nga eh.

Were you well known in your school? I don't think so. I usually participate on some school programs pero backgrounder lang hahaha.

SKIP CLASSES? have done previously pero not on my 4th year.

Did you get suspended/expelled? Never.

Can you sing the alma mater? I still remember a few lines (including the voicing part hahaha).

What was your favorite subject? Statistics yata (alang maisip).

Did you go to the dances? yes. JS Prom at our school, Senior Gradball at New World Hotel.

Where did you go most often during breaks? minsan sa gym, minsan sa rotonda (circular mini-park at school)

What did you do on the last day of school? Gave letters to friends, hingi ng souvenir pics , chikahan with classmates

Feel like reminiscin' too? Then you're tagged! :)

I'm In Seventh Heaven! The Marie Digby Update: Part 1

>> Monday, May 12, 2008

Indeed I am in cloud nine! Just so happy now. Here it is! :)

May 9 - Velvet Underground, Zouk

Mon and I took a bus to the place since there's a direct bus from our place to Velvet Underground. We arrived at Zouk around 7:15PM already and the line is quite long already. The line consists of all sorts of nationalities that I can identify (locals, Malaysian, Indian, Indonesian, Americans, Filipinos). We are actually already at the pathway to the hotel parking area. Within 10-15mins, the line went al the way down that we weren't able to see where it ends.

We were actually getting quite impatient because they said that entry to the venue will start at 7:30PM. It's humid and hot outside and good thing I bought my ever reliable battery-operated fan. Else, I'll be soaking wet in sweat! Hahahah.. Gross.. I think we got in around 8:15 already.

The place is actually small, the stage within reach. But since I am not tall and we're already in the middle part of the ????, we hardly see the stage at all. Added to that the three tall guys (one with really big hair) standing right in front, therefore blocking all the other "fans" good view of the stage.

The deejays of the Singapore radio station co-sponsoring the event came and introduced Marie Digby. :) Woooo! In an instant, cameras are flashing just about everywhere (including mine haha)! She's very much into maintaining small chit-chats with the crowd in between her songs. She sang "Say it Again" first, followed by "Umbrella", "Stupid for You", "Unfold" and the finale is the song she wrote for Gap, "Paint Me in Your Sunshine". A very short event but really worthwhile. :)

Video I took of her singing unfold (EDIT: quite a few comments that the audio is really good... dunno if our cam has a nice noise filtering feature, or our super stretched arms while taking the video paid off -with matching tingkayad, or the crowd is not that noisy - in SG when someone sings, they listen intently with minimal shouting hehehe)

Some photos

What I actually like about her, is that her voice is really genuine and unique. :) Really refreshing to hear her sing. :) Too bad I didn't had the chance to meet her. Seems that she had the actual media interview after her gig. Oh well, still hopeful for the following event....

That's what I am feeling right now BECAUSE......

When the sun shines we'll shine together..
Told you I'll be here forever..
Said I'll always be a friend
Took an oath, I'mma stick it out 'til the end

Hehehe.. (nubayun napakanta pa talaga) I'm so happy. :) The actual reason is... I got the invitation to Marie Digby's event on the 9th! How? Well... I purposely dropped by Gap at Suntec City yesterday and inquire about getting the invitation. Whaddayaknow?! With a minimum of 100SGD purchase at Gap, I'll get the ticket for two! Yahoo! Not only will I get to see Marie, I also have a very good excuse to buy something! ;)

I got the reddish hobo bag and a beige cap for my hubby. I asked the cashier if I can get the invitation even if my purchases did not reach a 100SGD (just almost a hundred), she said yes! Yey! I also got Marie's poster. Yey yey! Plus, a Loreal sampler kit. Nice nice nice!

Can't wait for Friday to come. I get the chance to hear Marie live!

Haayyy... Can't wait for Friday to come! ;)
*currently loving her song, Say it Again.. Here goes.. ;)

Yesterday was Mon's birthday and we had a very simple celebration with few friends at home. Cooked something for him and just hang out the whole day. Here are some pics :)

To my dear husband, hope you had fun. We have grown so much better together and I am really proud of it. Thanks a lot for being supportive and understanding. And as they say, a year older is a year wiser. The few months of this year might be quite difficult for both of us but I am confident that we will pull through. I love you so much be! Mwah!
